Keeping last-minute swaps accurate

When a client drops new creative 30 minutes before a daypart starts, I’m trying to protect both schedule integrity and placement optimization without pausing the whole line. In GAM and CM360 I’ve been doing swap windows at:45 past the hour with a:10 buffer and a geo check against yesterday’s top placements, but I still see 1–2% off-hours delivery. What’s working for you to keep swaps clean and pacing on target?

I stopped relying solely on server-side dayparts and added a short-lived key-value “swap” toggle in GPT; target the new creative to swap=1 from:40 to:10 around the hour, then revert — this cut leakage to about 0.3% by dodging cached tabs (belt-and-suspenders, but it works). Caveat: you’ll need devs to pass the key on every call; ref: https://developers.google.com/publisher-tag/guides/set-targeting.

I use CM360 creative-level time targeting:50–:05 and drop old to ‘5%’; avoids pauses, slight underdelivery risk.

I spin up a short-lived Sponsorship “bridge line” in GAM from:45 to:10, mirror the geo/top placements, and attach only the new creative so it preempts the main line and the old unit can’t sneak off-hours. I cap it with a tiny budget or ad unit limits to prevent pacing spikes — pit stop, not a new car. If you’ve got deals, exclude PMP inventory to dodge priority collisions.
