Recommendations for pre-event comms training

I’m assembling a quick training plan for our street team and on-air hosts ahead of our June 8 downtown live broadcast, and I need vetted short courses on crowd communication, sponsor messaging, and incident coordination. If you’ve had success with a 2–3 hour virtual module or a certificate that fits a mixed staff schedule, what providers have delivered real results for your community events?

We used ESA’s 2-hour ESAT — solid crowd comms; add IS-100 (about 3h) for incidents; sponsor messaging via RAB. https://www.eventsafetyalliance.org/esat.

Had the best results from FEMA’s IS-242 Effective Communication (about 2 hours) plus a 30–45 min Zoom tabletop; it covered crowd updates and incident handoffs without losing the on‑air folks. For sponsor messaging, PRSA’s “message mapping” webinar worked, but build in a quick roleplay. If you’re racing the June 8 date, do IS‑242 first and treat @ajones_57’s IS‑100 as optional: FEMA - Emergency Management Institute (EMI) Course | IS-242.C: Effective Communication.

Ran into the same mixed-staff squeeze before a downtown live, and IAVM’s Trained Crowd Manager online came in just under 3 hours and gave our street team and hosts a shared playbook for on-the-fly updates and clean handoffs. +1 to @jenningsm52 on adding a quick tabletop; 30–40 minutes on Zoom with the site map made it stick. Caveat: it won’t touch client reads, so we tack on a 20-minute “what you can/can’t say” huddle and a one-pager with exact June 8 phrasing — otherwise someone freelances, .
