Anyone running a reliable, low-cost phone hybrid or app for pop-up remotes? We’re hosting live check-ins from the 4th Ave farmers market on Saturdays and need something that plays nice with a Comrex and lets neighbors text or leave quick voicemails — ideally under $300 and simple for volunteers. If you’ve got a tool or workflow that keeps community voices clear over spotty LTE, I’d love to hear what’s working.
We’ve had good luck with Comrex FieldTap + a free Google Voice number: FieldTap hits your ACCESS/BRIC clean while GV collects texts/voicemails, all under $300 and no duct tape required (https://www.comrex.com/products/fieldtap/). Tell volunteers to use wired earbuds and drop FieldTap to a lower bitrate when LTE stumbles; if you need true phone audio, a used JK Audio BlueDriver into your mixer feeding the Comrex is a cheap backup. At our Saturday pop-ups, I run Groundwire on a cheap Android registered to a $1/mo DID at https://voip.ms (texts + voicemail) and Bluetooth it into the Comrex with a JK Audio BlueDriver-F3. Set Groundwire to ‘G.711 only’ and it stays stable on spotty LTE, and the whole setup lands under $300.
Building on @sarah_j88’s simplicity point: skip the phone and register a Callcentric SIP DID to your Comrex, let Callcentric grab “texts + voicemail” in the web inbox or email you MP3s, and send the call audio straight in — no Bluetooth hop… It stays under $300 (a few bucks/month + usage) and has been steadier than app layers on spotty LTE during our Saturday 4th Ave hits. https://www.callcentric.com.
